We have owned our Westsail 43 for 42 years, and sailed her over 50,000 miles - visiting many of the Island Groups in the South Pacific and the Caribbean. Everything on the boat works, and works well, because if it did not, we either modified it or threw it overboard and started over! We have sailed all of our trips with just the two of us - no extra crew. The boat is extremely strong, water tight, and safe. The Crealock hull makes her reasonably fast. We have seen her withstand 100-knot winds at anchor during a hurricane in Tahiti. Once off Port Villa, hove to in winds gusting above 50 knots, no water found its way below.
Typical passages we have done include Tongareva, in the Cook Islands, to Honolulu - 21 days against the
trades. Honolulu to Newport Beach, CA - 19 days. Socorro Island, Mexico to Nuka Hiva, Marquesas - 19 days.
One might wonder why sell a boat that is really finally complete. Well, that can be explained by just one word - diabetes.
